The Minister of Labor, Employment, and Social Security, Sharat Singh Bhandari, recently addressed the issue of ownership of Nepali workers’ labor in foreign lands, emphasizing that the state should ensure their rights. Speaking at a program organized by the Department of Foreign Employment on Tuesday, the minister highlighted the importance of protecting the rights of Nepali citizens working abroad, regardless of how they reached foreign soil.

Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed his opinion on the matter, emphasizing the need for the government to take decisive action in safeguarding the labor and employment sector in Nepal. He stressed the importance of honest involvement from all parties to effectively manage the situation without delay.

Minister Bhandari also raised concerns about the current state of rural areas in Nepal, pointing out the lack of basic amenities and the resulting migration of the workforce. He called for a thorough review of the situation, highlighting the need to address the root causes of rural depopulation and the consequent lack of employment opportunities.

Regarding foreign employment, Minister Bhandari advocated for providing labor approval rather than labor acceptance to those seeking overseas jobs. He emphasized that the country should issue work permits to Nepali workers going abroad, ensuring their rights and protection in the host countries. He questioned the need to impede the readiness of both the workforce willing to work and the countries willing to hire them.

Furthermore, Minister Bhandari expressed concern about cases of Nepali workers being exploited by fellow nationals in the name of foreign employment. He emphasized the ministry’s efforts to regulate and monitor agents and middlemen involved in deceptive practices, aiming to provide services through a transparent system.

In conclusion, Ramesh Khatri from Kansai Nepal News highlighted the importance of implementing strict measures to prevent exploitation of Nepali workers and ensure their well-being in foreign employment opportunities.
