A chain of “Ma La Tang” restaurants, which are expanding in Tokyo and Osaka, seems to be opening a new branch in Motomachi. Located at 1-10-3 Motomachi Street, Kobe City, this new outlet of “Yang Guo Fu Mala Tang” will be situated on 1st Street just a short walk from the entrance near Daimaru in the Motomachi shopping street. If you face east, you’ll find stores like “STEP SPORTS” and “KALDI” for groceries. To the west, neighboring the restaurant, you’ll see the Kobe beef eatery “RED ONE” with a Spider-Man mural on its wall, while across the street, there’s the tie shop “Motomachi Bazaar” and nearby a “Matsumoto Kiyoshi” store.

The Yang Guo Fu (Young Off) Group, a renowned fast-food chain in China, boasts over 7,000 global chain stores across China and 10 other countries and regions worldwide. In Japan, this business model is operated by a company called “Daitengen,” with around 15 outlets mainly in Tokyo and expanding to Osaka and Kyoto in Kansai region.

Mala Tang, known for its numbing spiciness, is a Chinese soup dish that this restaurant prepares using over 20 authentic seasonings imported from China. The unique feature lies in the service style, where patrons can choose from over 72 ingredients in a buffet-style selection, pick their preferred soup base, and pay based on the weight of ingredients. The spiciness level can be adjusted on a five-tier scale, allowing customers to customize their Mala Tang to their liking. In other regions, long queues have been reported at these outlets.

While the opening date is yet to be confirmed (“Coming Soon”), the interior of the restaurant is currently under construction, indicating a possible opening around February. Situated close to the bustling Chinatown area of Nanjing Town, it raises curiosity whether long queues will form at this location as well.
