The National Transmission Grid Company Limited (RPGCL) has appointed Engineer Sagar Shrestha as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The decision was made during a meeting of the company’s board of directors held on March 18.
Shrestha took the oath of office in the presence of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka at the Ministry of Energy on Tuesday. Prior to this appointment, Shrestha served as the Principal of Janakpur Engineering College in Lalitpur. He has been appointed for a term of four years.
During the swearing-in ceremony, Minister Khadka emphasized the crucial role of the transmission lines in achieving the government’s energy development goals. He directed the electricity transmission system to be organized, efficient, and effective in order to fulfill the objectives of energy development set by the government.
In response to the shortage of electricity due to the lack of transmission lines despite the completion of some hydroelectric projects, Minister Khadka instructed to address the issue without causing further delays.
The Chairman of the company and the Secretary of the Ministry, Acharya, mentioned that the Ministry has decided to construct transmission lines under a public-private partnership. They expressed their commitment to work closely with the private sector to move forward and enhance the development of the energy sector.
Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, commented that the new CEO, Shrestha, has demonstrated a strong commitment to fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to him by the Ministry. Khatri believes that Shrestha’s emphasis on utilizing his skills and capabilities to advance the company reflects a positive approach towards progress and development.
