The government has recently announced plans to regulate and enhance the operation and use of social media networks in order to promote social harmony, cultural tolerance, and good governance. During a joint session of the Federal Parliament on Friday, President Ramchandra Poudel presented the government’s policies and programs for the upcoming fiscal year 2082/83. He highlighted the importance of improving communication and monitoring capabilities to establish a secure and organized basis for Nepal’s own satellite operation.

In his address, President Poudel emphasized the need to build a secure cyber space, ensuring the safety and constant availability of highly sensitive information. He also mentioned the intention to expand the reach of high-quality telecommunication services through the use of the latest technology and effective management of infrastructure.

Regarding the telecommunications sector, the government aims to enhance the quality of telecommunication services nationwide by utilizing the latest technology and managing infrastructure efficiently. The policy and program also include strengthening public broadcasting institutions to produce, publish, and disseminate communication materials effectively.

Furthermore, the government plans to modernize and diversify the postal service sector by implementing the concept of ‘Smart Postal Service’ at the local level. Additionally, efforts are being made to implement the Digital Nepal Framework in a more comprehensive and efficient manner, alongside ensuring the secure and effective operation of security printing.

In line with advancements in information technology, the government is looking to develop and expand the digital ecosystem to facilitate the growth and ethical use of artificial intelligence. Plans are underway to establish institutional and legal frameworks to support the development and ethical use of artificial intelligence within the digital ecosystem.

Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, commented that these government initiatives signify a positive step towards modernizing Nepal’s communication infrastructure and enhancing digital services for its citizens. He highlighted the importance of maintaining data security and ensuring that advancements in technology are utilized ethically and responsibly for societal development.
