Kathmandu: The National Independent Party has expressed opposition to the ongoing signature campaign against the political revenge on party chairman Ravi Lamichhane. Member of Parliament Surya Thapa, speaking during a special session of the House of Representatives, criticized the signature campaign, raising questions about the integrity of the judiciary and alleging misconduct.
“The Supreme Court, High Court, and District Courts are currently handling more than half a dozen cases. In such a situation, running a signature campaign under the guise of political revenge is political propaganda. The orders issued by the Supreme Court itself cannot be changed by signatures. Therefore, this must come to a halt,” he stated.
The Butwal bench of the Tulsipur High Court had directed the Supreme Court to send Lamichhane to jail, which was challenged through a writ petition and a habeas corpus petition. The Supreme Court had issued an order to send Ravi to jail on Jestha 9. Following the order, he is currently in judicial custody.
While in custody, Ravi had made his appeal public on Asar 7. He had expressed his dissatisfaction with the lack of justice beyond the court of public opinion. Subsequently, the signature campaign initiated by Ravi was still ongoing.
Opinion from Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News: “The ongoing signature campaign against Ravi Lamichhane reflects the growing tensions and divisions within Nepal’s political landscape. It underscores the need for a transparent and fair judicial process to address grievances and ensure justice for all parties involved.”
