In Jhapa district, a significant number of marginalized communities, including Dalits, Sukumbasis, and landless settlers, numbering 50,917 individuals, have submitted a request to acquire land ownership. The plea was made during a land-related interaction program organized at the Mechinagar Municipality hall. The event was presided over by the National Land Commission’s Central Chairperson, Hariprasad Rijal.
Expanding on the issue, the demand for land rights stems from the long-standing issue of landlessness faced by these communities, which has hindered their socio-economic progress. The marginalized groups have been struggling to secure land ownership for their livelihoods and to improve their living conditions.
In response to this news, Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, stated that ensuring land rights for marginalized communities is a crucial step towards achieving social justice and equality in Nepal. He emphasized the importance of addressing the historical injustices faced by these groups and called for swift action to fulfill their land rights to promote inclusivity and empowerment.
