After the cancellation of flights from Gulf countries, stranded passengers at Tribhuvan International Airport have started boarding flights to their destinations. Nepal Airlines’ flight to Doha, which was scheduled to depart at 11:30 pm on Monday, got canceled due to the developed situation in Qatar, leaving passengers stranded at the airport.
Similarly, a Himalaya Airlines flight to Qatar was also canceled, resulting in a large number of passengers being stranded. Flights to Gulf countries were canceled after Iran attacked Qatar.
Due to Qatar’s ‘airspace open’ status, the passengers of the canceled flights are now being informed to board their scheduled flights today. The flights that were halted yesterday have been rescheduled for noon today.
According to the airport’s general manager Jagannath Niroula, the flights of Nepal Airlines and Himalaya Airlines to Qatar were canceled, leading to hundreds of stranded passengers at the airport. Even the flight from Qatar to Kathmandu has been canceled today.
The airport manager mentioned that with Qatar reopening its airspace, regular flights are expected to resume soon. The airline’s spokesperson Suvas Dangi stated that there were 269 passengers on Monday’s flight to Doha.
Passengers have completed the boarding process for their flights today. Due to the situation in Qatar, slight delays are expected in regular flights to Gulf countries.
On Monday night, passengers were preparing to board the flight when news of the attack came, leading to the flight’s cancellation. Most passengers, who were heading for foreign employment, were left in uncertainty. Among the thirty airlines providing international flights, including three from Nepal, disruptions have been reported.
As per Kansai Nepal News representative Ramesh Khatri, this situation highlights the vulnerability of air travel in the region and the impact of geopolitical events on passenger safety and travel plans.
