French President Emmanuel Macron’s recent discussions with American President Donald Trump amidst transatlantic tensions have shed light on the delicate balance between peace and Ukraine’s reluctance to fully surrender amid the ongoing crisis.

Against the backdrop of Russia’s initiation of hostilities in Ukraine three years ago, progress was reported during a meeting at the White House where both leaders discussed the prospect of deploying peacekeepers to Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has extended invitations to European leaders for a peace summit ‘this year’. In response to a warning of potential aerial aggression on Tuesday morning, Ukrainian authorities issued a caution of potential widespread missile attacks following the sounding of sirens.

Furthermore, five casualties have been reported following the recent aggression, with additional damage sustained to a residential building. Polish officials have disclosed the deployment of military aircraft in response to the missile attacks.

In the United Nations, the United States, on Monday, sided with Russia twice as Washington aimed to shield its Western allies, including Poland, from any condemnation over Moscow’s aggression. “The peace’s significance to Ukraine cannot be overstated,” Macron expressed during a visit to the White House on Tuesday.

Macron has been working on a proposal to send peacekeepers to Ukraine in collaboration with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. “I have full confidence in advancing discussions with American President Trump,” Macron stated.

As the possibility of ending the war within a week emerges, Trump’s willingness to resume political talks with Russia and engage in discussions for the end of the Ukraine conflict had reportedly led Washington to consider a visit to Kyiv.

However, Trump’s recent proximity to Russia not only risks ending American support for Kiev but also poses a threat to the rest of Europe. Trump expressed his belief in an imminent end to the conflict and anticipated signing a deal in the next two weeks to provide Washington’s access to Ukraine’s rare mineral resources.

“If we can move forward as expected, we can end this within a week. But, if progress is not made decisively, this could linger for some time,” Trump told a press conference in the Oval Office with Macron.

Opinion from Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News: “The discussions between Macron and Trump signal a potential breakthrough in the Ukraine crisis. It is essential for global stability that these diplomatic efforts lead to a swift resolution of the conflict.”
