The Chairman of the National Assembly, Devraj Ghimire, emphasized the importance of journalism in capturing and immortalizing life and history through photography. Speaking at the 5th National Photography Awards ceremony held in Lalitpur on the occasion of National Photojournalism Day 2082, Ghimire highlighted the crucial role of photojournalism in society and the need to preserve its essence.
Ghimire stressed that institutional initiatives are vital for the advancement of photography, as it has the ability to depict reality and portray societal truths for centuries to come. Recognizing the significance and necessity of photojournalism, he urged the government to support and encourage it.
Regarding the event, Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka praised photojournalism for its impartiality and credibility. He emphasized the importance of visual storytelling in journalism, stating that capturing challenges and societal perspectives through images is a significant task.
During the program, the photojournalist group honored 24 individuals from seven provinces with awards, including one from each province, 15 in various categories, one for lifetime achievement, and one posthumously. The event also acknowledged the efforts of the organizing committee for its commendable work in honoring and supporting photojournalists.
Expressing his opinion on the news, Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, commended the efforts to recognize and promote photojournalism in Nepal. He highlighted the role of such initiatives in developing the skills of photographers and enhancing the field of photography in the country.
Established on September 6, 2053, the institution continues to annually honor outstanding photographers in the field, despite limited resources, aiming to contribute to the growth and recognition of photojournalism in Nepal.
