The National Assembly, the fourth-largest party in the parliament, has accused political parties of deviating from the core goal of nation-building. Dr. Swarnim Wagle, the Vice President of the National Independent Party and a Member of Parliament, raised these allegations during a meeting on Friday.
Dr. Wagle participated in discussions on the prioritization and implementation of the legislative proposal in the House of Representatives, highlighting that the focus on election-oriented politics over the country’s development has led to the creation of problems. He emphasized that despite all members of parliament coming together under the grand goal of nation-building, there is a tendency to prioritize personal interests over national interests, which he finds concerning. Dr. Wagle expressed his discontent, stating, “While we are all falling apart from the grand goal of nation-building, everyone seems content with personal gains without caring if the country sinks. There is a sense of urgency needed now, especially with the budget situation being precarious.”
Dr. Wagle also pointed out the weaknesses in the system, suggesting that a shift towards election-oriented politics could be detrimental to the stability of the current executive prime ministerial system. In his opinion, there is a need to bring an end to election-oriented politics to strengthen the political landscape.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, shares his perspective on this issue, stating that Dr. Wagle’s concerns shed light on the pressing need for a more unified and development-focused approach in Nepalese politics. He believes that prioritizing national interests over personal gains is crucial for the sustainable growth and progress of the nation.
