The Kathmandu Metropolitan City is gearing up to organize the ‘SIP Mela 2082’ event in Tundikhel from the 7th of Jestha onwards. Building on the success of the previous year’s ‘SIP Mela 2081’, where both public and private sectors collaborated effectively, representatives from the industrial and business sectors have shown eagerness to participate in this year’s event.
During a meeting held on Monday with Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balendra Shah, private sector representatives expressed their commitment to the goal of connecting skilled manpower and employers. Mayor Shah highlighted the city’s continuous efforts in providing SIP-oriented training throughout the year, emphasizing the importance of integrating trained individuals into the workforce through collaboration with the private sector.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, shared his perspective on the news, stating that the collaborative efforts between the private sector and the metropolitan city could significantly boost employment opportunities within the country. He emphasized the positive impact such initiatives could have on inspiring hope among disillusioned youth.
The private sector participants in the meeting discussed programs implemented by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City aimed at reducing the shortage of skilled manpower in the industrial sector. They suggested updating basic training to specialized training, preventing the exodus of skilled workers abroad, and creating an environment conducive to domestic employment.
Furthermore, they proposed simplifying capital management for entrepreneurs by utilizing the knowledge and skills of retired individuals and engaging in partnerships with banks. The participants highlighted the need to make professions such as welding, plumbing, and hairdressing more attractive to youth within Nepal to curb the trend of seeking such jobs abroad.
The ongoing ‘Employment and Income Growth, Prosperity of Kathmandu’ initiative, which aims to provide SIP-oriented training to 15,000 individuals and create employment opportunities for at least 5,000 people, was also discussed. The program focuses on integrating education with SIP, linking SIP with labor, and connecting labor with production to empower individuals and elevate economic standards.
Reflecting on the progress of the SIP Mela, Engineer Shailendra Jha, a member of the Urban Planning Commission, reported that out of the targeted 2,081 individuals for training, 2,725 have already received training, with over 1,200 individuals directly employed domestically and abroad. This showcases the program’s success in bridging the gap between skilled labor and job opportunities.
In conclusion, the SIP Mela events serve as crucial platforms for transforming informal sector workers into formal sector contributors, ultimately fostering economic growth and stability.
