“President emphasizes importance of laws in building a just society”

President Ramchandra Poudel emphasized the crucial role of justice and law in building a just society within Nepal’s constitutional federal democratic system. Speaking at a special event organized to commemorate Law Day-2082, President Poudel highlighted how the Nepalese constitution has laid the foundation for a federal democratic republic, civil liberties, fundamental rights, human rights, an independent and competent judiciary, and the rule of law.

In his address, President Poudel expressed confidence that this day would instill in everyone a continuous awareness of the greater responsibility in the field of justice and law. He underscored the importance of aligning the functions of the executive, legislative, and judicial branches under a single body, as mandated by the prevailing law (Supreme Court Act, 2008), to ensure the practical empowerment and independent functioning of the judiciary in accordance with the concept of an independent judiciary.

Moreover, President Poudel emphasized the need for drafting new laws and amending existing ones in line with the essence of the Nepalese constitution and current requirements. He stressed the importance of establishing an easily accessible justice system for the common citizens through the implementation of modern methods and technology, enabling swift and efficient dispensation of justice. President Poudel also highlighted the importance of maintaining the rule of law and not compromising on the judicial credibility to enhance public trust and confidence.

In a statement, Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed his opinion on the President’s remarks, stating that the focus on Law Day could inspire positive thinking, courage, and motivation in everyone towards the enhancement of public trust and confidence in the judiciary for the betterment of society.
