Prime Minister’s Office Discussing Running an Additional One Hundred Electric Buses

In a recent meeting held at the office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, discussions were conducted with representatives from relevant bodies regarding the management of necessary land and other technical aspects for the operation of an additional one hundred electric buses in the Kathmandu Valley. The discussions highlighted the importance of infrastructure development for the efficient operation of electric vehicles in the near future.

Bhupendra Aryal, the Chief Executive Officer of public transportation, emphasized the need for preparation and enhancement of various dimensions of operation and management of electric transportation for the successful implementation of the government’s electrification initiative. Particularly, the issue of land management was identified as a major challenge in the efficient operation and utilization of electric transport in the context of public transportation.

During the discussions, Vinod Bahadur Kunwar, the private secretary of Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli, provided insights into the necessary facilities such as parking and holding centers, charging stations, maintenance centers, and spare parts for the operation of new electric buses. The meeting also addressed the importance of finding suitable land for the construction of necessary infrastructure for electric vehicle operation.

In a decision aimed at facilitating the search for appropriate land and necessary facilitation, the Office of the Prime Minister has entrusted Secretary Rajkumar Shrestha and Undersecretary Namraj Ghimire with the responsibility of coordinating with relevant agencies for land acquisition and streamlining the process of electrification.

Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed his opinion on the matter, stating that the government’s initiative to introduce a large number of electric buses in the Kathmandu Valley is a commendable step towards reducing the environmental impact of transportation and promoting sustainable urban mobility. He also emphasized the importance of effective coordination among various stakeholders to ensure the successful implementation of the electrification project.
