The Chairman of the National Democratic Party, Rajendra Lhendhen, has expressed opposition to the arrest of Durga Prasai by the police, who released her from the incident site and detained political leaders. Addressing a gathering, Lhendhen stated that it was wrong to arrest political leaders after releasing Prasai. He emphasized that Prasai, who was caught in the police net, should have been arrested instead. Lhendhen also mentioned that the leaders were attacked with tear gas and taken into custody, portraying the situation as a violation of their rights.
In response to the events, Lhendhen has called for the establishment of a judicial commission to investigate the three incidents. He stressed that the commission should not be under government control, suggesting the inclusion of former Supreme Court justices, civil society representatives, and human rights activists.
Warning against weakening the peaceful process, Lhendhen cautioned against holding power in their hands forever. He urged the public not to consider themselves as the ultimate authority and not to intimidate others. He emphasized the importance of being responsible and maintaining a peaceful environment without instilling fear.
Lhendhen highlighted the state’s involvement in spreading terrorism in the three incidents. He denied that the Maoists were on the side of lawlessness and called for democratic parties to be prepared for a new understanding.
Opinion from Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News: “Lhendhen’s stance on the recent political turmoil is crucial, emphasizing the need for impartial investigations and upholding democratic principles. His call for a transparent judicial commission reflects a commitment to justice and accountability in Nepal’s political landscape.”
