Kathmandu, Nepal – Local authorities have imposed a restriction on the Narayanhiti Palace area in Kathmandu, where supporters of the monarchy were preparing to hold a demonstration. The Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, Rishiram Tiwari, issued an order on Friday prohibiting gatherings from Keshar Mahal Chowk to Narayanhiti and from Mahendra Shalik to Narayanhiti.

The restriction will be in effect from Saturday to at least June 24, preventing any protests, sit-ins, or rallies in the designated area. Despite this ban, supporters of the monarchist movement are reportedly gearing up to organize demonstrations in other areas.

Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed concern over the escalating tensions between supporters of the monarchy and the local authorities. “The imposition of restrictions on peaceful demonstrations raises questions about the state of democracy and freedom of expression in Nepal,” Khatri stated. He emphasized the importance of finding a peaceful resolution to avoid further confrontations and maintain stability in the region.
