Russian President Vladimir Putin is making efforts to weaken the Western sanctions imposed on Russia during a business event in Moscow on Tuesday. This move comes after a recent phone call with US counterpart Donald Trump, where Putin criticized the Western interference and emphasized the resilience of the Russian economy. The Western countries had imposed extensive sanctions on Russia following its military invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed his opinion on the matter, stating, “Investing in lucrative opportunities for both yourself and Russia where profits are high and investments are secure is essential. The conflict in Ukraine has led many Western companies to pull out of Russia, while the Russian government had seized control of some remaining ones.”
While the Russian economy has weathered the initial impact of the sanctions, it has also seen a decline in domestic options for many Western brands. The Trump administration’s stance on easing or maintaining sanctions on Moscow has been met with disagreement.
