In Taplejung, a district in Nepal, a group of locals displayed a black flag on Saturday as a form of protest against Rajendra Mahato, the president of the National Liberation Party of Nepal. The protest was organized by the “No Cable Car Group,” and participants joined a rally to express their discontent with Mahato, who was visiting the area in an official capacity.
Accompanied by individuals from various districts who oppose cable car projects, Mahato was accused by the locals of creating disturbances in the peace and security of the district while also engaging in activities that were deemed detrimental to society. The accusations were made by residents of Basindada in Taplejung where the black flag was displayed.
During his visit, Mahato, along with the “No Cable Car” group, reportedly chanted slogans against the development projects in the sacred pilgrimage area of Pathibhara and voiced dissent against the district administration and society in general. Sundar Limbu, a local resident, explained that the black flag was raised due to Mahato’s alleged actions that were seen as hindering the district’s progress and social harmony.
Limbu emphasized that as a supporter of civic development and against cable car projects, Mahato’s actions were not welcomed, urging everyone to refrain from activities that could disrupt progress and social cohesion.
