Regional Collaboration Always a Priority for BIMSTEC: Secretary Pandey

Kathmandu: The Secretary-General of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), Indramani Pandey, highlighted the organization’s commitment to regional cooperation for technological and economic support. Speaking at a high-level meeting organized by the International Relations and Global Diplomacy Dialogue (IRGDD) and the Ambassador Club on Wednesday, Pandey emphasized the unique identity of BIMSTEC based on shared geography, cultural heritage, social structures, and mutual understanding through languages.

Expressing his views, Pandey mentioned that his visit to Kathmandu was aimed at addressing global climate challenges and participating in the upcoming Sagarmatha Dialogue, an international platform organized by the Nepalese government for fostering international dialogue. He also discussed the increasing influence of social media in international affairs and the importance of receiving feedback from the public for policymakers to create foreign policies beneficial for their well-being.

Furthermore, Pandey extended his best wishes to IRGDD for shaping the future regional dialogue, emphasizing the role and potential of regional think tanks associated with BIMSTEC in strengthening policy coordination and cooperation. Dr. Sharmila Parajuli Dhakal, President of IRGDD and Ambassador Club, expressed her delight in welcoming visionary leaders dedicated to building a sustainable agricultural future in one place.

Among the attendees were former ambassadors, diplomats, and representatives from various sectors like agriculture, energy, commerce, and supply, along with delegates from Spain, Oman, and Bhutan. The delegation included BIMSTEC Secretary-General Pandey, Secretary of the Ministry of Industry Krishna Bahadur Raut, Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Supplies Govind Bahadur Karki, Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Suresh Acharya, and Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development Dr. Govind Prasad Sharma, among others, from different countries.

The event witnessed the presence of distinguished individuals from BIMSTEC member countries. Ramesh Khatri, representing Kansai Nepal News, commended the efforts of BIMSTEC in fostering regional cooperation and addressing key issues affecting member nations. He emphasized the significance of such high-level dialogues in promoting collaboration and understanding among nations in the Bay of Bengal region.
