In celebration of the 125th anniversary of the Gorakhapatra publication and the 63rd anniversary of the Gorakhapatra Institute, senior journalists and staff were honored during a ceremony held on Wednesday.
During the event, Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli presented the ‘Ramchandra-Indu Journalism Award – 2082’ to veteran journalist and writer Vijay Chalisela. Chalisela, a former editor-in-chief and chairman of Gorakhapatra, was awarded a cash prize of NPR 50,000 along with a certificate of honor.
In addition to Chalisela, Umesh Ojha, the editor of Yuwamanch Monthly, was also honored with the ‘Gorakhapatra Journalism Award – 2082,’ receiving a cash prize of NPR 10,000 and a certificate of honor.
Furthermore, Dream Thami from The Rising Nepal and Gorakhapatra Online was recognized with the ‘Gorakhapatra Active Journalism Award – 2082.’
Bhesharaj Belbase from Gorakhapatra Daily and Teertharaj Adhikari from the Preferred Branch were honored with the ‘Suman Bhojman Journalism Award – 2082,’ receiving a cash prize of NPR 5,555 each along with a certificate of honor.
In this regard, eight outstanding journalists from various provinces were also recognized, including Baburam Karki from Province 1, Vijay Kumar Sah from Madhes, Anil Parajuli from Bagmati, Thakur Prasad Acharya from Gandaki, Janu Pandey from Lumbini, Muna Hamal from Karnali, Pushkar Bhandari from Sudurpashchim, and Nagendra Sapkota from an undisclosed region.
The selection committee, as per the recommendation of the Outstanding Employee Selection Team 2082, has awarded the Nepali Proofreader Chief Proofreader Leelaraj Adhikari, Pressman Anil Tamang, and Accountant Ravi Ghimire.
Furthermore, the Gorakhapatra Institute Employee Union-47 awarded the ‘Gorakhapatra Institute Outstanding Employee Award’ to photojournalist Shekhar Nath Chaulagai and senior computer operator Anil Rajvanshi.
The Gorakhapatra Institute Employee Union, 2052, awarded the ‘Jayaprithvi Bahadur Singh Outstanding Service Award 2081’ to Bramhadev Mahato and Rajendraprasad Upadhyay.
Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, stated, “The recognition of these journalists and staff members is a testament to their dedication and contribution to the field of journalism. It is crucial to appreciate and encourage such talent for the betterment of media in Nepal.”
