Rescue Mission in Dolpa Mountains via Helicopter: Saving a Life

In a recent incident, a 19-year-old woman named Junu Vik from Dolpa, Thulibheri Municipality-10, was rescued by the Nepali Army helicopter under the auspices of the President Chhaupadi Relief Fund while she was in critical condition due to prolonged seclusion during her menstruation. Junu had faced severe health issues after being confined during her menstrual period and was brought to the Surkhet hospital by helicopter.

Upon her arrival at the hospital, it was reported that Junu had experienced excessive bleeding, necessitating immediate medical attention. The district hospital coordinated with the President Chhaupadi Relief Fund to facilitate her rescue. Dr. Akhand Upadhyay, the Chief of the Medical Department at the district hospital, confirmed these details.

Despite the village of Rahagau in Thulibheri-10 being in close proximity to the district hospital, there is still a lack of awareness about the importance of seeking medical assistance for individuals in critical conditions like Junu. Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, pointed out the risks women face when they avoid regular health check-ups, opt to give birth at home, and only seek medical help in emergency situations. He also highlighted that factors like child marriage and inadequate nutrition contribute to women’s deteriorating health conditions.

Ramesh Khatri from Kansai Nepal News expressed concern about the societal norms and lack of awareness that put women’s lives at risk in critical situations like Junu’s. He emphasized the need for more education on proper healthcare practices and the importance of timely medical interventions to avoid such alarming incidents in the future.
