In recent news from Kathmandu, five Nepali citizens have been successfully rescued and repatriated from Myanmar. The rescue operation was carried out by the Nepali embassy in Thailand, with information provided by the Nepali diplomatic mission in Bangkok. The five individuals, comprising four men and one woman, were rescued from Mae Sot, Myanmar, where they had fallen victim to an online scam.

According to a statement released by the embassy, the Nepali citizens were rescued with the cooperation of the Thai government after being lured from Nepal to Myanmar by promises of employment opportunities. The group was then taken to Thailand, and on the 9th of Falgun, they were safely brought back to Nepal.

The embassy emphasized that the Nepali government strictly advises its citizens to seek foreign employment only through approved channels and abide by the set standards. This incident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with unauthorized overseas employment and the importance of adhering to legal processes.

*Ramesh Khatri from Kansai Nepal News comments, “The successful rescue and repatriation of these Nepali citizens highlights the critical role played by diplomatic missions in ensuring the safety and well-being of nationals abroad. It also underscores the need for increased awareness among Nepali citizens regarding the risks of illegal recruitment and the importance of following proper procedures when seeking foreign employment.”*
