Singer Alina Chauhan has been granted an extension of three days to investigate allegations of online abuse and misconduct against her through social media platforms. The investigation stems from a public complaint filed by Chauhan, who resides in Lalitpur’s Godavari and had accused a 33-year-old man named Gunjan Rai from Bharatpur, Chitwan, of cyberbullying. Rai was apprehended by the police cyber bureau and presented in the Kathmandu District Court on Tuesday, in accordance with the court’s order related to violations of the Electronic Transactions Act of 2063.
According to the bureau’s spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepak Raj Awasthi, the bureau has been given a three-day deadline for scrutiny and investigation under the aforementioned Act. He informed the media that from technical analysis and investigation, Rai’s involvement in the incident has been confirmed, and it has been revealed that he had created multiple fake IDs to engage in such activities. The investigation is ongoing.
In response to the allegations, Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, stated, “Through technical analysis and investigation, it has been found that Rai was directly involved in the incident. He had also created multiple IDs to carry out such activities. The investigation is ongoing.”
Khatri further revealed that Rai had been posting defamatory comments related to character assassination, sharing pictures and videos of the victim, and posting comments hinting at character assassination leading to murder in the comment section of the victim’s Facebook posts.
