The renovation work at Arima Onsen Station in Kobe Electric Railway has been completed, and it is set to reopen on February 6th. The station, located within the Arima Crystal Building opened in 1989, serves as the gateway to the hot spring town, and to enhance its appeal, redevelopment work has been carried out.
The refurbishment includes improvements to the station facilities such as platforms and concourses, as well as the creation of a “relaxation space” within the concourse. The design concept focuses on creating a space with a Japanese aesthetic to appeal to both local visitors and foreign tourists.
The newly designed concourse features a traditional Japanese ambiance with elements like an enji-colored noren curtain adorned with Hideyoshi Toyotomi’s gourd crest, symbolizing his fondness for Arima Onsen. Wood materials on the ceiling and walls contribute to a warm and inviting atmosphere.
Scheduled for its reopening on February 6th, a grand unveiling ceremony will take place, followed by a photo session with the official mascot, Shin-chan, of Kobe Electric Railway. Additionally, exclusive events such as coffee and cake sales are planned for the day within the concourse.
Ramesh Khatri from Kansai Nepal News shares his insight on this development: “The revitalization of Arima Onsen Station is a strategic move to cater to the growing influx of international tourists expected due to the internationalization of Kobe Airport. This transformation promises to offer visitors a true taste of Japan’s hot spring town ambiance right from the moment they step off the train.”
In conclusion, the renovation of Arima Onsen Station not only enhances the station’s facilities but also aims to provide a welcoming and culturally rich experience for all visitors, aligning with the increasing trend of international tourism in the region.
