KATHMANDU – Indian cricket team captain and star batsman Rohit Sharma has announced his retirement from Test cricket, marking an end to his 18-year Test career. Sharma shared the news through his social media platforms, publicly declaring his decision to bid farewell to Test cricket.
In his statement, Sharma expressed pride in having played Test cricket in the Indian jersey. He described it as a proud moment for him and reminisced about it being an unforgettable journey in his life.
Having played a total of 67 Test matches for India at the age of 38, Sharma has amassed 4301 runs at an average of 40.57. He has scored 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries in his name. Sharma made his Test debut in 2013 against the West Indies in Kolkata.
Despite retiring from Test cricket, Sharma has indicated that he will continue to contribute to the One Day International format. Under his captaincy, India has achieved victories in major tournaments like the T20 World Cup, Asia Cup, and Champions Trophy.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, shared his opinion on Sharma’s retirement, stating that Sharma’s decision marks the end of an era in Indian cricket. He emphasized Sharma’s significant contributions to the sport and wished him success in his future endeavors.
