Chernihiv, Moscow – The Russian Ministry of Defense announced on the 23rd that a prisoner exchange has taken place between Ukraine and Russia as per the agreement reached during direct negotiations in Istanbul, Turkey earlier this month. The exchange involved 270 prisoners and 120 civilians from each side. This development comes amidst ongoing tensions between the two countries.
The exchange of prisoners is a significant step towards de-escalating the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The direct negotiations in Istanbul were seen as a positive move towards finding a peaceful resolution to the long-standing conflict in the region. Both countries have been engaged in a protracted conflict since Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed his views on the matter, stating that the prisoner exchange is a crucial development that could potentially pave the way for further diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict. He emphasized the importance of such gestures in building trust and confidence between the warring parties. Khatri also highlighted the need for sustained dialogue and efforts towards lasting peace in the region.
