“Sales Boost in Department Stores in Japan”

Department stores across Japan have reported a significant increase in sales, according to the Japan Department Stores Association. Total sales for the year have reached 5.7722 trillion yen, showing a notable surge compared to the figures from 2019. The sales have seen a growth of 6.8% compared to the previous year and a 3.6% increase from 2019. This rise has been attributed to the increased demand for items such as cosmetics, watches, and jewelry, driven by a notable influx of foreign tourists.

Moreover, tax-free sales have also reached a record high for the second consecutive year, with an 85% increase compared to the previous year. This data highlights the positive trend in consumer spending within the country, reflecting a strong performance in the retail sector. The steady growth in sales is indicative of a thriving retail market in Japan, with both domestic and international factors contributing to the overall increase in revenue for department stores.
