In the ongoing ICC World Cup League 2, Nepal faced a defeat against Scotland in their third match of the tournament. Scotland set a target of 324 runs for Nepal at the Fort Hill Cricket Ground in Dundee. Winning the toss, Scotland opted to bat first and scored 323 runs, losing 5 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.
For Scotland, Richie Berrington played a remarkable innings, scoring 114 runs off 101 balls with the help of 14 fours and 2 sixes. Michael Leask contributed with 94 runs off 61 balls, including 12 fours and 3 sixes. Charlie Tear also played a significant role, scoring 68 runs off 65 balls. Mark Watt added 21 runs to the total.
On the other hand, Nepal’s bowlers Deepender Singh Airee and Karan KC took two wickets each, while Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi claimed one wicket.
Ramesh Khatri, representing Kansai Nepal News, expressed concern over Nepal’s performance against Scotland. He emphasized the need for the Nepalese team to focus on consistency in their wins to achieve their goals in the tournament.
Nepal and Scotland are currently participating in a triangular ODI series alongside the Netherlands. Nepal is set to play their second match against the Netherlands on June 10. The two teams previously faced each other with Nepal winning against Scotland and the Netherlands suffering a defeat. Nepal is aiming to maintain their winning streak in the upcoming matches.
In today’s match, the Nepali team, led by captain Rohit Kumar Paudel and vice-captain Deependra Singh Airee, includes players like Bhim Sarki, Asif Sheikh, Kushal Bhurtel, Aarif Sheikh, Sandeep Lamichhane, Gulshan Jha, Sompal Kami, Karan KC, and Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi.
Prior to facing Scotland, Nepal had been unbeaten in practice matches with various county clubs in England. Both Nepal and Scotland have been preparing rigorously for the ICC World Cup League 2, where the top four teams will qualify for the World Cup.
The ICC World Cup League 2 match continues as Nepal gears up to play against the Netherlands on June 10. Additionally, Nepal is slated to participate in a T20 international series to be hosted in Scotland under the League 2 banner.
