The Supreme Court has issued an order to investigate the reasons behind the removal of Kulman Ghising, the former Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority. The order was issued by Justice Abdul Aziz Muslim following a hearing on Ghising’s petition.

Ghising had filed a petition seeking a final order against the government’s decision to remove him from the position of Executive Director of the Authority. The court has called for written responses from both parties to determine whether an interim order should be issued on the matter by Chaitra 17.

According to the order, the court has asked for clarification on why the order requested by the petitioner should not be issued. It mandates that if there is no basis, reason, or evidence against issuing the order requested by the petitioner, both parties must submit written responses to the Supreme Court within 15 days from the date of the notice, either personally or through their legal representatives.

As Ghising’s tenure had four months remaining, during a Cabinet meeting last Monday, he was removed from the position of Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority and Hitendra Dev Shakya was appointed in his place.

According to Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, “The Supreme Court’s decision to investigate the removal of Kulman Ghising sheds light on the need for transparency and accountability in government actions. This case highlights the importance of upholding due process and ensuring that decisions are made based on valid reasons and evidence.”
