“Speaker Ghimire urges Ravi Lamichhane to resign from parliamentary position”

#BreakingNews
The President of the National Independent Party (NIP), Ravi Lamichhane, recently met with the Speaker of the House, Devaraj Ghimire. The meeting took place at Ghimire’s office in Singha Durbar, where Lamichhane requested the resignation of his Member of Parliament.

Just two months ago, Lamichhane had announced his resignation, citing personal reasons along with the demand for his MP’s resignation. The party’s acting spokesperson, Manish Jha, highlighted that the purpose of the meeting was to remind Ghimire of this request.

In addition to Lamichhane, the meeting was attended by the NIP Vice President Dol Prasad Aryal, Chief Secretary Santosh Pariyar, Secretary Nisha Dangi, Sovita Gautam, Ashok Chaudhary, Shiv Nepali, Dr. Tosima Karki, among others. Expressing concerns over the practice of resigning MPs to address issues, they urged Ghimire for further discussion on the matter.

Following Lamichhane’s name being implicated in a property cleansing issue, the Federal Parliament Secretariat had issued a notice on August 8th, calling for the resignation of the MP.

Opinion from Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News: “The meeting between Lamichhane and Ghimire sheds light on the internal dynamics of NIP. The call for the MP’s resignation and subsequent discussions signify a shift in the party’s stance on accountability and ethics, which could impact its future trajectory.”
