A conference on investment, which was previously postponed due to various reasons, has kicked off in Biratnagar, Koshi Pradesh. The conference was inaugurated by Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and is expected to last for two days. This marks the first time that Koshi Pradesh has initiated an investment conference, even though the federal government has previously held similar events periodically.
Koshi Pradesh government has allocated around NPR 173.49 billion for 71 projects across various sectors such as agriculture, tourism, energy, industry, infrastructure, IT, and forestry. Dr. Saroj Koirla, the Chief Executive Officer of the Investment Board of Koshi Pradesh, revealed that agreements for more than two dozen projects are expected to be signed during the conference duration.
Opinion from Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, suggests that this conference showcases the state’s commitment to attracting private investment and fostering economic growth in the region.
In addition to simplifying the investment process, the provincial government has also revised laws related to investments for streamlining procedures. The recent amendment includes provisions for facilitating land availability for industrial operations and aligning regulations with the Industrial Business Act of 2077.
The conference has seen a significant increase in the number of projects related to tourism, with 15 projects in the tourism sector, 9 in agriculture, 14 in infrastructure, 9 in industries, and 9 in the energy sector being presented. This highlights the diverse range of opportunities available for potential investors.
The impactful conference has prompted the provincial government to consider modifications to encourage investments and promote a favorable investment environment. Revati Ram Bhandari, Minister of Internal Affairs and Law, mentioned that amendments have been made to stimulate the investment climate and support the ease of doing business.
Various committees have been formed under the leadership of Chief Minister Hikmat Karki to oversee the conference, including the Main Organizing Committee, Economic Affairs Committee, Policy Law Amendment Committee, Project Selection Committee, Advisory Committee, and Secretariat.
The investment projects span across different sectors such as energy, tourism, agriculture, infrastructure, industry, information technology, and waste management. The projects include strategic initiatives like the construction of hydroelectric power projects, monorail systems, cable car projects, road construction, and industrial estates, aiming to enhance the region’s economic landscape and attract more investors.
Overall, the investment conference in Koshi Pradesh signifies a significant step towards economic development and prosperity in the region, setting a positive outlook for future investments and growth opportunities.
