“Stock Market Rises as Nepse Index Increases by 26 Points”

In recent weeks, the stock market in Nepal had been experiencing consistent growth, but today it took a turn as a significant decline was observed. The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index dropped by 26.10 points, settling at 2040.78.

Trading activity involved a total of 9,739,738 shares of 326 companies, resulting in transactions worth approximately NPR 44.48 billion. The market saw a shift towards the selling side with all sectors displaying a bearish trend. Financial institutions witnessed a notable decline, with banking sector shares dropping by 52%, development banks by 71%, and insurance companies by 46%. On the other hand, sectors like hydropower (-26%), hotels and tourism (-3%), and production and processing (-78%) also showed significant decreases.

Guardian Microfinance Insurance had a standout performance with its share price surging by 51% today. Conversely, Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Company Limited experienced a decline of 26% in its share value.

Today’s trading session saw Himalayan Reinsurance Limited at the forefront in terms of trading volume, with shares worth NPR 326.98 million changing hands. Growth Funds saw significant activity as well, with 710,000 shares traded.

Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, commented on the market’s recent performance, stating that the sudden shift to a bearish trend is a cause for concern among investors. He emphasized the need for careful monitoring of market conditions and advised investors to exercise caution in their trading decisions amidst the current uncertain market environment.
