In a recent meeting of the Central Committee of the Nepali Congress on the first day of July, several leaders raised questions about the cooperation with the CPN (Maoist Center) regarding power-sharing. While some leaders suggested exploring options for collaboration with the CPN (Maoist Center), a decision was firmly reached during the Congress meeting on Monday, solidifying the alliance.
Spokesperson Prakash Sharan Mahat emphasized the strong consensus within the Congress party regarding the alliance with the CPN (Maoist Center), citing the decision as crucial for effectively managing government affairs. The spokesperson highlighted key areas such as service delivery, economic development, good governance, employment, and meeting the needs of the public as priorities for the government’s agenda.
Sher Bahadur Deuba, the party president, expressed his confidence in the longevity of the alliance, stating that he trusted the alliance to endure for its full term. Despite challenges arising from the alliance of two major parties, Deuba assured that any issues would be resolved through dialogue.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, opined that the alliance was a positive step towards stability and progress in Nepal’s political landscape. He emphasized the importance of effective governance and cooperation in addressing the nation’s pressing issues.
During the meeting, dissatisfaction was expressed by leaders Arjun Narasingh KC, Shekhar Koirala, and Dila Sangraula regarding delays in constitutional amendments and concerns about the government’s functioning. The discontent among the leaders stemmed from their expectations of a more proactive approach in these matters.
Regarding the upcoming constitutional amendment, there were differing opinions within the Congress party. Some members, like Gagan Thapa and Vishwaprakash Sharma, proposed setting a deadline for the party’s General Convention to address organizational renewal issues. However, no concrete decision was made regarding the date for the General Convention, with further discussions planned in the future.
The issue of holding a Mahasabha (General Convention) was also deliberated upon during the meeting, but no definitive decision was reached. The spokesperson mentioned that the party would review the renewal of active membership and finalize plans for the General Convention by the end of Bhadra.
In conclusion, while the Congress party is moving towards affirming the necessity of the alliance with the CPN (Maoist Center) and working on organizational matters, there remain ongoing discussions and considerations about the future direction of the party and the political landscape in Nepal.
