The Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor, Dhanraj Acharya, has emphasized the need for continuous support from everyone to ensure the sustainability of the flights from Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China, which recently commenced from the Pokhara International Airport. The first commercial chartered flight to Chengdu from the Pokhara International Airport was organized by the Pokhara Tourism Council on Monday. Mayor Acharya distributed certificates of participation to the participants of the flight and highlighted that this flight has increased the possibilities of international flights from Pokhara.
This initiative marks the first international flight to Chengdu, Lhasa, and Chongqing, fostering tourism partnerships between the two countries. Mayor Acharya also mentioned the importance of utilizing the extensive network of Sichuan Airlines in many countries to enhance tourism cooperation.
The direct flight from Pokhara to the newly constructed Ali Airport near Mount Kailash in China is seen as a significant contribution to the local economy by Mayor Acharya. Maniraj Lamichhane, the head of the Gandaki Province of the Nepal Tourism Board, highlighted the positive impact of the “Bitubee” and “Sales Mission” events held in Chengdu and Chongqing as contributions to the tourism sector.
Furthermore, Tarannath Pahari, the President of the Pokhara Tourism Council, expressed that the first successful flight has further strengthened the relationship between Pokhara and China. Jeevan Raj Sapkota, the Secretary-General of the Council, extended gratitude to everyone for their support and cooperation in the first commercial flight. The Council’s founder, Chairman Ashok Palikhe, along with Ramkali Khadka and Deepak Pahari, emphasized the need to align with China’s development, governance, and cleanliness standards.
From the perspective of Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, this collaboration in the aviation and tourism sectors between Pokhara and China signifies a promising step towards enhancing international connectivity and boosting the local economy.
