Kathmandu – The Ride-Sharing regulations of Gandaki Province Government faced pressure from transportation entrepreneurs. The federal government, responding to the demands of transportation entrepreneurs, sent a letter to the provincial government urging a temporary suspension of the regulations for one month. The Gandaki government has decided to halt the regulations for a month to address the concerns raised by the entrepreneurs and continue the suspension until further notice.
Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed his opinion on the situation. He stated that the decision to suspend the regulations temporarily was a wise move by the Gandaki government to engage in dialogue with the entrepreneurs and resolve the issues at hand efficiently.
The regulations for Ride-Sharing services have caused discontent among entrepreneurs in Gandaki Province as they feel that even private vehicles with unique number plates are being restricted under the provincial government’s rules. This has led to tensions between the federal and provincial governments regarding the implementation of these regulations.
Regarding the issue, Bhimjwala Rai, the President of the Nepal Transport Independent Workers’ Union, highlighted that the new federal transportation laws are being developed without considering the existing Ride-Sharing regulations implemented by the Gandaki government. This discrepancy has led to conflicts between the entrepreneurs and the government.
The recent halt in transportation services led to protests by transportation entrepreneurs in Gandaki from Jestha 16. Despite the government’s invitation for dialogue, the entrepreneurs refused to engage, leading to communication breakdown. The entrepreneurs have criticized the federal government for intervening in provincial matters without proper consultation.
The disputes between the entrepreneurs and the government have raised concerns about federal intervention in provincial autonomy. The Gandaki government’s decision to suspend the regulations and seek federal input has sparked debates about federalism and the balance of power between federal and provincial authorities.
In response to the situation, Krishna Prasad Sapkota, a federalism expert, expressed his views on the federal government’s actions, highlighting the need for a balanced approach that respects the autonomy of provincial governments while upholding federal laws and regulations.
