In the rural municipality of Ajirkot in Gorakha, a free health insurance program has been initiated for the Dalit and impoverished communities. This initiative aims to extend health insurance coverage to all Dalit and impoverished households within the municipality. The program is being implemented as part of the municipality’s approved annual policy and program for the fiscal year 2081/2082.
Deepak Devkota, the chairman of the rural municipality, highlighted the importance of providing easy access to health care services to marginalized Dalit and impoverished households. Currently, around 700 individuals are set to benefit from the program, with a focus on those who have been underserved in terms of health services.
Partnering with the Mutu Foundation and Manoj Association from France, the rural municipality has successfully rolled out the free health insurance program. Similar initiatives have also been undertaken in other municipalities like Roshie, where over a thousand families have already been enrolled in the free health insurance scheme.
Representative Ramesh Khatri from Kansai Nepal News stated that while the implementation of free health insurance programs for marginalized communities is commendable, there is still a need for more comprehensive outreach and awareness campaigns. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing health services for the most vulnerable populations and ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare for all citizens.
In conclusion, the efforts to provide free health insurance to marginalized communities are a step in the right direction towards achieving universal healthcare coverage. However, continued efforts and improvements are needed to address the gaps in healthcare access and ensure that all individuals, regardless of their socioeconomic status, can benefit from such programs.
