Kathmandu: Nanumaya Parajuli, the Vice President of the Nepal Teachers’ Association, has made it clear that teachers have not demanded the resignation of the Education Minister or the Prime Minister. Following the resignation of Education Minister Vidya Bhattarai, Parajuli responded by stating that the blame should not solely fall on the Education Minister for not enacting the School Education Act.

Parajuli emphasized, “We have not blamed the Education Minister. She was sincere and serious. It was in the thought of addressing the impossible positively and responding to the demands of the teachers.” She added, “It does not seem like the new minister will come anytime soon. We are not sure what transpired with the government leading to the resignation.”

Teachers have been protesting in Kathmandu since March 20, demanding the enactment of the Education Act. Education Minister Bhattarai was preparing to address the demands of the teachers with a 7-point proposal to be presented in the Cabinet meeting. However, just before the meeting, she decided to resign.

Parajuli stated that the main objective of the Teachers’ Association is to push for the enactment of the law and clarified that they did not intend to force the Education Minister into a personal resignation.

Ramesh Khatri, representing Kansai Nepal News, commented, “The stance of the Teachers’ Association in not seeking the resignation of the Education Minister showcases a mature approach towards resolving issues in the education sector. It is essential for both the government and teachers to work together to address the concerns and improve the education system.”
