The upcoming renovation project at Nishinomiya Central Station in Kobe, Japan, will temporarily disrupt the use of escalators for approximately two months. The station is undergoing a makeover with a concept centered around the theme of “dappled sunlight,” incorporating renovations to its walls, floors, and other areas. Detailed visualizations of the planned changes can be found in previous articles.
The construction work is set to commence in early February, with temporary partitions and scaffolding being installed in phased sections. Initially, the orange zone, including the staircase at the back of the station and the space where the street piano is located, will be closed off for about a month and a half.
Subsequently, from mid-March to mid-May, the green zone will see the suspension of escalator services, while elevators will remain operational throughout. Following this, from mid-May to mid-July, the blue zone near the ticket gates will have its staircase closed for renovation.
Throughout the construction period, which is scheduled to last until the end of September 2025, the area around the ticket gates and the space in front of “Ekisoa-re” will undergo works for approximately four months starting in mid-February. However, pedestrian access will be maintained during this time.
Compared to similar projects at other stations, the renovation period at Nishinomiya Central Station appears relatively short. Nevertheless, commuters and travelers are advised to plan for potential delays in reaching their usual platforms during busy periods.
