Bandipur, a picturesque tourist town in Tanahun, Nepal, has seen an increase in domestic tourists during the New Year’s Eve celebration. Known as the “Queen of the Hills,” Bandipur has become a popular destination for internal tourists to ring in the New Year.
The ongoing “Bandipur Tourism Year 2025” has energized tourism entrepreneurs with the rise in excitement among domestic tourists. The Chairman of the Bandipur Tourism Development Committee, Kisan Pradhan, noted that the influx of tourists for the New Year has not only boosted tourism but also increased business activities in the area.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed his opinion on this news, stating that the surge in tourist arrivals is a positive sign for the tourism sector in Bandipur.
The Chairman further mentioned that hotel occupancy has reached full capacity due to the increasing number of tourists, with even a 15% discount being offered during the New Year period. He also highlighted that local cuisine festivals have contributed to the rise in tourist numbers and that the buzz around tourism activities has been growing steadily.
According to the Secretary’s office of the Bandipur Tourism Year, there has been a significant increase in both domestic and international tourist arrivals, with an estimated two lakh ten thousand tourists expected to visit Bandipur during the year. Additionally, the community homestays have also witnessed a surge in interest from internal tourists, as mentioned by Dil Kumari Thapa, a community homestay owner.
Various cultural events and festivals have been organized to entertain tourists, with Vaish Bahadur Gurung, the coordinator of the tourism year, emphasizing the importance of cultural festivals in attracting tourists. The ongoing festival includes cultural dances from various ethnic groups such as Magar, Newar, Gurung, and Brahmin, enhancing the cultural experience for visitors.
Raju Baniya, the coordinator of the promotional activities for the Bandipur Tourism Year, disclosed that tourists from countries like Japan, China, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, France, the USA, Germany, Denmark, Pakistan, Australia, the UK, Ireland, South Korea, Belgium, Thailand, Taiwan, Switzerland, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Iran, India, Greece, and Argentina have visited Bandipur.
In an effort to further boost tourism, the local municipality has identified key tourist destinations such as the Khadga Devi Temple, Thanimai Temple, Mahalakshmi Temple, Siddha Cave, Mani Mukunda Sen Hiking Trail (Mini Great Wall), Tundikhel, waterfalls, and more.
Chairman Surendra Thapa highlighted that the unique architecture of houses, Tundikhel, Thanimai, waterfalls, Rani Ban, Ramkot, Sonakhari, Khaddevi Temple, Vindhyavasini Temple, Mahalakshmi Temple, and information centers are popular attractions for tourists visiting Bandipur.
