The Sri Lankan navy apprehended three individuals on Saturday in connection with the illegal smuggling of gold outside the country while being held captive on a dinghy. They were captured in the sea near Kalpitiya in the northwestern region, as reported by the navy. The suspects, who were found in possession of the contraband gold and considered to be involved in suspicious activities, were handed over to the authorities for legal action at the Bansar office. The navy informed that the operation to combat illegal activities included regular patrols and search missions in coastal and maritime areas. The seized gold was reportedly discovered during one of these surveillance operations at sea.
