“Thriving in Livestock Farming, Moving Away from Politics – Nyopane’s Journey”

Residents of Ward 1 in Hariban Municipality of Sarlahi, Nepal, have observed Balaram Nyupane engaging in the busy activities of tending to his cattle and goat farm. From early morning until late at night, Nyupane is dedicated to taking care of his goats, milking his cows, preparing feed, and selling milk, making it a part of his daily routine. After a 30-year political journey that began with aspirations for social change, Nyupane transitioned to commercial animal husbandry in 2080 BS.

Representative Ramesh Khatri from Kansai Nepal News expressed his opinion on the matter, highlighting Nyupane’s shift from a student engaged in politics to now contributing to society through livestock farming. Khatri noted Nyupane’s past political roles and his current focus on business ventures aimed at providing employment opportunities and contributing to the state through tax payments.

Nyupane’s farm, known as ‘Farm House,’ located seven kilometers north of Chure Pahada along the East-West Highway, initially started with five goats, one cow, and one buffalo. Presently, the farm has expanded to accommodate 70 goats, eight cows, and two buffaloes.

In addition to recognizing the need for stability amid the political changes brought about by past revolutions, Nyupane emphasized the necessity of economic revolution. He highlighted his commitment to his business, stating that animal husbandry not only brings personal satisfaction but also contributes to income generation. Nyupane shared that during the recent fair in Gadhimai, he made sales exceeding NPR 1.2 million, indicating a significant increase in his business within a few months.

Furthermore, Nyupane emphasized the importance of diversification beyond animal husbandry, mentioning his engagement in agriculture activities such as cultivating wheat, tomatoes, and other crops on some of his land. He shared how his business has not only improved his living standards but also facilitated his children’s education. Nyupane mentioned that he sells approximately 50 liters of milk from his cows daily.

Highlighting the interconnection between politics, social service, and economic prosperity, Nyupane stressed the role of leaders in providing guidance and opportunities for financial growth. Nyupane has recently provided employment to three individuals and plans to expand his business by venturing into poultry farming to complement his livestock activities. He also mentioned his intention to explore commercial agriculture by utilizing manure from his animals for crop production.

Nyupane has planted grass on four hectares of land for fodder production, and at the start of his business, he invested NPR 829,000 in constructing physical infrastructure and purchasing livestock. Currently, his investment has increased to approximately NPR 12.5 million.

In conclusion, Nyupane’s journey from politics to entrepreneurship exemplifies a shift towards economic self-sufficiency and community development. His story underscores the potential for individuals to contribute to both personal growth and societal progress through innovative business ventures.
