In 1972, Lee Hu-rok, the head of the Central Intelligence Agency, made a top-secret visit to Pyongyang. This visit marked a significant event in diplomatic relations between North Korea and other countries during that period.

Seven years later, in 1979, United Nations Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim visited North Korea and held talks with Chairman Kim Il-sung. This meeting was crucial in shaping international perspectives on North Korea’s foreign policy and relations with the UN.

In 1986, an important development took place in Seoul with the opening of the Olympic Road. This infrastructure project not only enhanced transportation in the city but also symbolized South Korea’s growing significance on the global stage.
