In a recent incident in Cuttack, Odisha, a significant derailment occurred involving 11 coaches of the Bangalore-Kamakhya AC Superfast Express. The incident took place near Nergundi Station in the Cuttack-Nergundi Railway Section of the Khurda Road Division of the East Coast Railway. The derailment occurred at approximately 11:54 AM local time.
According to Ashok Kumar Mishra, a senior official from the Eastern Coastal Railway, a total of 11 air-conditioned coaches were derailed in the accident. Reports indicate that there was one fatality as a result of the incident, with 25 others sustaining injuries.
In response to the derailment, emergency response teams have been dispatched to the site, including relief and medical aid services. Senior railway officials are currently present at the scene to assess the situation. Both the Indian government and state authorities have been informed and are coordinating efforts to provide support and assistance.
