On Friday, President Donald Trump issued a new threat of imposing fresh sanctions and tariffs on Russia following the recent bombing in Ukraine. Trump expressed concern over Russia’s full-scale attack on Ukraine, stating that until a ceasefire and peace agreement are reached, he is considering imposing significant banking sanctions and blockades on Russia.
In a post on his social media platform, Trump mentioned, “Russia is currently carrying out a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. I am strongly considering imposing major banking sanctions and blockades on Russia until a ceasefire and peace agreement are reached.” He urged for Russia and Ukraine to come to the negotiating table.
Trump’s warning comes in the wake of Russia’s recent large-scale drone and missile attacks on Ukraine last Friday. Just a few days prior to this, the Trump administration had halted American military assistance and covert intelligence sharing with Ukraine following a dispute with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Director of the National Economic Council, Kevin Hassett, indicated that Trump’s threat is a part of his diplomatic and strategic maneuvering. “President Trump is adamant that we must bring everyone to the table. He wants to have conversations with everyone,” Hassett informed journalists, highlighting the political and strategic aspect of Trump’s warning.
Opinion from Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News: “The escalating tension between Russia and Ukraine is a grave concern for global stability. President Trump’s strong stance signifies the seriousness of the situation and the need for diplomatic resolutions.”
