The police have apprehended two individuals on allegations of engaging in online gambling activities worth around two crores. The suspects, Rajprakash Shrestha, 48, from Ramche, Khandadevi Rural Municipality-9, and Harichandra Bujel, 23, from Vidur Municipality-13 in Nuwakot, were captured in Kathmandu.
According to the information provided by the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range, the arrests were made based on confidential information regarding the operation of an online game called ‘Mantra 108’ on various platforms, where individuals were collecting funds for gambling, participating in crypto currency trading, and other illicit activities.
Following initial investigations, it was revealed that transactions amounting to over two crores forty-one thousand were conducted. During the search of their premises, various items were seized, including multiple mobile phones, computers, SIM cards, ATM cards, diaries, checkbooks, and a cash sum of ninety thousand rupees.
The arrested individuals are facing charges under the Public Offense Act of 2074, Section 125, which prohibits engaging in gambling activities, as well as Section 262 (k) 1, which prohibits the use of virtual currency. The District Police Office has initiated further investigation and legal action in accordance with the law.
