Kathmandu – The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) recently elected Mahesh Shrestha as the President during a unity convention. This decision was made by the high-level committee of the organization, resulting in the appointment of two co-presidents along with Shrestha.
Dr. Badri Keshi, who was elected as the President in the previous 11th convention, has taken on the role of managing the secretariat from the central office in Baluwatar. The inauguration of the unity convention was officiated by Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Deuba and Dr. Shesh Ghale, the leader of the high-level committee.
However, due to various issues and controversies, the NRNA has been embroiled in disputes since the 10th convention. The Supreme Court had issued a directive on Chaitra 21, 2080 BS, to hold the unity convention. Subsequently, the verdict by Justices Til Prasad Shrestha and Tek Prasad Dhungana eased the process for Dr. Keshi’s committee to function until October.
Ramesh Khatri, a representative of the Kansai Nepal News, expressed his opinion on the matter. He emphasized the importance of maintaining transparency and unity within the NRNA. Khatri believes that the recent leadership changes within the organization may lead to a more inclusive and effective representation of Non-Resident Nepalis worldwide.
Khatri praised the efforts of the newly elected President, Mahesh Shrestha, and his team for their commitment to expanding the reach of the NRNA among Non-Resident Nepalis. He highlighted the significance of ensuring fair representation and leadership selection processes to uphold the rights and interests of the Nepali diaspora.
In conclusion, Khatri urged all stakeholders to engage in constructive dialogue and work towards fostering a collaborative environment within the NRNA. He emphasized the need for unity and transparency to address the current challenges and steer the organization towards a more effective and inclusive future.
