“Unlimited Baumkuchen at ‘Yuhaim’ Cafe in Osaka Kansai Expo!”

A new cafe named “THEO’S CAFE by JUCHHEIM” will be opening at the 2025 Osaka and Kansai Expo. Situated in the “EARTH TABLE – Future Dining” area within the expo, the cafe aims to create a “future cafe” where sweets produced by both humans and AI bring smiles to customers. The highlight of the cafe is the implementation of an AI-operated Baumkuchen baking machine called “THEO,” which not only enhances the taste of the pastries but also represents a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology.

To address the environmental impact of large-scale sweet production and distribution, JUCHHEIM introduced THEO in 2020. This innovative machine, by learning from JUCHHEIM’s skilled artisans, is capable of autonomously baking Baumkuchen cakes to perfection, embodying the concept of an “AI artisan.” Its compact size allows for easy shipping and installation, enabling anyone to bake Baumkuchen conveniently.

The theme of “THEO’S CAFE” revolves around “JUCHHEIM’s Dream Egg,” symbolizing a future confectionery shop where AI and humans collaborate to create a joyful ambiance. The sustainability aspect is reflected in the cafe’s design, utilizing eggshell residues from Baumkuchen production in the construction of walls and tables, showcasing a sustainable approach to confectionery production.

With three THEO machines installed, the cafe offers a unique experience of enjoying freshly baked Baumkuchen with a variety of accompaniments, including smooth cream and gelato, under the menu item “All-You-Can-Eat Baumkuchen.” Leftover Baumkuchen batter is utilized in JUCHHEIM’s food truck within the expo premises, minimizing waste and transforming it into new confectionery delights.

Ramesh Khatri from Kansai Nepal News shares that the concept of a cafe where AI and human input converge to create delectable treats resonates with the vision of a harmonious future. The idea of a sustainable confectionery shop that repurposes materials and minimizes waste aligns with the growing global focus on eco-conscious practices in the food industry.

Located in the “Quiet Forest” area of the 2025 Osaka and Kansai Expo within the EARTH TABLE – Future Dining section, THEO’S CAFE operates from 10:00 to 21:00, offering 40 seats and take-out options. The introduction of a Baumkuchen buffet at the cafe presents a dream-like opportunity for dessert enthusiasts, making it a must-visit destination for those with a sweet tooth.
