The National Independent Party (NIP) has decided to expel Mukul Dhakal, who was previously a general member, citing that he held the position of Mahamantri. The Election Commission has communicated this decision to NIP through correspondence. NIP claims that the Commission’s communication goes against the political party regulations. Dhakal, who was expelled even from the general membership, has requested reinstatement to the party’s Vice Presidents DP Aryal and Swarnim Wagley.

Ramesh Khatri, a representative of Kansai Nepal News, expressed his view on this development, stating that NIP’s decision to expel Dhakal raises questions about the party’s future direction. The allegations made by NIP against the Election Commission for violating regulations also need to be addressed.

According to the Election Commission’s communication, NIP raised legal questions against Dhakal’s removal as Mahamantri during the central committee meeting on Ashad 25, 2081. The party had updated the Commission about the list of 65 central members in Shrawan 17, 2081. Subsequently, after 11 months, the Commission informed that Dhakal was still holding the Mahamantri position.

Dhakal has mentioned that he will actively engage with the party after the Election Commission recognized him as Mahamantri in the recent correspondence. Despite the Commission’s communication, Dhakal plans to return to the party and contribute positively. He has also reached out to party Vice Presidents Aryal and Wagley requesting support in his reintegration into the party.

Khatri highlighted the importance of understanding the party’s regulations and the need for adherence to the rules to maintain the party’s integrity. He emphasized the significance of upholding the party’s internal guidelines to ensure transparency and accountability.

Dhakal, a former medical professional, was actively involved in the establishment of the Raskot Community Hospital in Kalikot in 2074. He was also a member of the hospital’s management committee. However, differences in working styles with Ravi Lamichhane, who later appointed him as Mahamantri, led to tensions within the party.

Dhakal’s return to the party is anticipated following the recent developments. NIP’s decision to remove him from the party due to alleged violations of regulations has stirred discussions about the party’s internal governance. Dhakal’s responsibilities within the party are expected to be reinstated based on the Election Commission’s recognition.
