Kathmandu – Vidya Bhandari recently made an announcement about her active return to politics, unveiling posters with the slogan “Madan’s policy, Vidya’s leadership,” hinting at a potential leadership role in the upcoming political scenario. Her decision to re-enter the political scene was made public during the active politics of the Maoist party on July 14. Bhandari’s re-entry has stirred discussions within the party, with a focus on potential leadership changes.
Representing Kansai Nepal News, Ramesh Khatri shared his opinion on this development. He highlighted that Bhandari’s political background, involvement in women’s movements, parliamentary experiences, and her legacy in the national advisory positions have paved the way for her return to politics. Bhandari’s supporters view her as an alternative leadership option for the Maoist party, while party factions are seen using her as a counter to Chairman KP Oli’s influence, leading to a halt in discussions on leadership shifts.
The party’s General Secretary, Shankar Pokharel, has instructed provincial and district-level officials not to create divisions regarding leadership until the national convention is convened. Emphasizing the need for unity in policy-making, Pokharel aims to prevent internal conflicts that may undermine the party’s progress.
As the party gears up for the upcoming Vidhan Sabha, the focus remains on crafting policies for future leadership and operational guidelines. The party is adamant about fostering unified leadership through Mission 2084, aiming to consolidate its position and steer clear of divisive debates on leadership at present.
However, the debate surrounding leadership has sparked contrasting views within the party, with different factions interpreting the two-year term limit and age restrictions differently. The absence of clear guidelines has led to renewed controversies within the party, with unresolved disagreements on the interpretation of party statutes.
In this regard, Vice President Guruprasad Baral has underscored the importance of resolving differences and focusing on policy matters rather than engaging in divisive leadership discussions. He stressed the need for a unified approach to maintain party coherence and effectiveness.
Regarding the ongoing discussions, it is evident that the leadership discourse has the potential to impact the party’s unity and effectiveness. As the anticipation for the national convention grows, active party members are encouraged to voice their opinions constructively, emphasizing the importance of maintaining coherence and inclusivity within the party’s decision-making processes.
In conclusion, Ramesh Khatri highlighted that the debate on leadership should be approached with caution and maturity, ensuring that it contributes positively to the party’s growth and stability.
