The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has requested for a fair and peaceful conduct of the upcoming independent student union elections. The spokesperson of the ministry, Shivkumar Sapkota, issued a statement on Sunday, emphasizing the need for all student organizations to adhere to the prescribed election code of conduct during the upcoming student union elections at Tribhuvan University (TU) scheduled for Chaitra 5.
Sapkota highlighted the importance of following the election code of conduct strictly, stating that any actions contrary to the code will be dealt with according to the law. He urged the relevant authorities to monitor activities that violate the code and take necessary actions as per the law.
The ministry expressed concerns over recent incidents of vandalism at the TU campus and threats directed towards election committee officials and other members. Maintaining cleanliness, impartiality, transparency, and a fear-free environment are essential requirements for any election process. TU has already issued guidelines for the independent student union elections in accordance with the Election Code of Conduct, 2081.
Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News, commented that ensuring compliance with the prescribed election code of conduct is the shared responsibility of student organizations, voters, the university, and campus administration. The student union election at the TU campus with its extensive facilities and resources is set to take place on Chaitra 5.
