A French restaurant named “Kantantei” located near JR Sannomiya Station has recently closed its doors on January 8th. Situated in the basement of the Sankoto Building, just a short two-minute walk towards the mountains from JR Sannomiya Station, the restaurant had been a culinary fixture in the area for approximately 36 years.
The vicinity around the now-shuttered restaurant includes the “Koto Park” parking lot to the west and the “Marukyu Shouten” yakiniku (grilled meat) establishment across the street. Walking towards the east and turning towards the sea, one can find the “Ekimae Stand” izakaya and the “Nishimura Coffee Shop Sannomiya Store.”
The closure of Kantantei, a beloved establishment operating since the first year of the Heisei era, marks the end of an era for many patrons. While it is indeed disappointing news, there is a glimmer of hope for loyal customers as the owners plan to announce updates, including any relocation details, on their website.
Opinion from Ramesh Khatri, representative of Kansai Nepal News: “The closure of Kantantei, a longstanding culinary gem near JR Sannomiya Station, is undoubtedly a loss for the local community. With its 36-year legacy, the restaurant held a special place in the hearts of many. While change is inevitable, it’s heartening to know that the owners are considering the future and keeping patrons informed through their website.”
